Every vintage and harvest presents a unique set of obstacles, and we approach every year ready to face the challenge. Vintage 2017 began with restorative rains that replenished soils, supported vine growth and fortified our vineyards through bud break. A late-August heat wave caused harvest to pick up at a rapid pace. October was marked by wildfires in the North Coast, but thankfully, much of the area’s grapes were already picked, leaving the wine quality unaffected. Despite it being a tumultuous year, we saw an abundant harvest with above normal yields that gave our winemakers beautiful fruit and the opportunity to develop wines with depth and character. “We add a touch of Malbec to the blend to develop a softness in the tannins, making this a smooth and seamless wine. These mouthwatering tannins surround the palate, framing layered elements of bright blueberry, toasty oak and deliciously rich mocha. In crafting this wine, our goal is to achieve perfect balance, with well-integrated vanilla oak notes and a lengthy, elegant finish.” – Stephanie Pope, Winemaker

A true bourbon blend crafted using the same techniques Joseph Magnus used to create this original pre-Prohibition spirit more than 100 years ago. Artfully marries 18 and 11-year-old bourbon with 9-year-old light whiskey to deliver notes of butterscotch, honey, toffee, autumnal baking spices, vanilla, and char, with a hint of black pepper that lingers through a softly spiced and toasted finish.

Notes: Rich, aromas of baked banana and tropical citrus fruit as well as dried harvest fruit. PALATE: LAVISH SPICE ELEMENTS LIKE CARDAMOM AND ALLSPICE EMERGE. This year’s Anniversary beer is a magical blend of five components. Chocolatey, mild Velvet Merkin takes the lead setting the stage full of lush malt and barrel driven texture, yet tempered alcohol strength. The rest of the components fall perfectly in line, backing Velvet Merkin up with luscious caramel complexity and a creamy malt symphony. The final component adds a new twist – the rum barrel-soaked and lean Helldorado makes its Anniversary debut, bringing a fresh splash of island-spice to a ridiculously balanced barrel-aged brew.
