William Larue Weller developed his original bourbon recipe with wheat, rather than rye. Bottled at the same 114 proof the spirit was when it entered into the barrel, this non-chill filtered wheated bourbon forgoes chill filtration to preserve all the naturally occurring residual oils and flavors that occur during the distillation and aging process (potentially making it appear cloudy at cold temperatures). This bourbon balances a rich mouth feel, with robust notes of vanilla and oak. Arak Haddad Zahra (Elite) is the prime capture of distilling Arak in the still and re-distilling it for the fourth time to give the most complex part of the anise character. Zahra is further aged in special wooden barrels to provide a mature finish worth celebrating. Zahra is full bodied with very rich character yet smooth for drinking, best served with water and ice and goes well with Mediterranean food.

hen our master blender discovered the last remaining stores of Orphan Barrel whiskies from years gone by, he thought it only fitting to share these whiskies with the world. He married the remaining stocks of Barterhouse, Forged Oak and various Rhetoric releases with aged rye and corn whiskies to create a masterful blend that pays homage to the original releases yet possesses a distinct profile all its own.This 14-year-old whiskey is a unique balance of age and flavor accenting the rich, creamy character of the orphaned bourbons with the spiciness of the aged rye whiskey. It begins with a burst of spice and delicately warms to a creamy richness with sweet notes of syrup and fruit.

Made with sweet vermouth, bitters, and maraschino cherries. This one’s out of balance from the start, initially coming across as overloaded with vermouth notes — oddly dry, with heavily herbal overtones. Things get even less coherent from there, the concoction turning gummy and vaguely vegetal. There’s little semblance of whisky here — there’s a reason soft Canadian whisky is never used in a Manhattan — particularly on the flabby finish.

Every vintage and harvest presents a unique set of obstacles, and we approach every year ready to face the challenge. Vintage 2017 began with restorative rains that replenished soils, supported vine growth and fortified our vineyards through bud break. A late-August heat wave caused harvest to pick up at a rapid pace. October was marked by wildfires in the North Coast, but thankfully, much of the area’s grapes were already picked, leaving the wine quality unaffected. Despite it being a tumultuous year, we saw an abundant harvest with above normal yields that gave our winemakers beautiful fruit and the opportunity to develop wines with depth and character. “We add a touch of Malbec to the blend to develop a softness in the tannins, making this a smooth and seamless wine. These mouthwatering tannins surround the palate, framing layered elements of bright blueberry, toasty oak and deliciously rich mocha. In crafting this wine, our goal is to achieve perfect balance, with well-integrated vanilla oak notes and a lengthy, elegant finish.”  – Stephanie Pope, Winemaker
