Mezcal Real Minero Pechuga
Real Minero is the brand of the Ángeles-family from Santa Catarina Minas. Being in fourth generation Mezcal-producers, father Don Lorenzo and son Eduardo work the distillery, while mother Doña Florentina is doing the bottling and daughter Graciela the marketing. The famous quality of the Mezcales Mineros comes from its distillation in earthenware pots, a tremendously laborious technique, which yields the most impressive spirits. Further peculiarities of Mineros are the use of different wild or cultivated agaves, which are distilled individually or composed in the mash. Often there are only 100 or 200 liters of these special batches produced. Genuine Mineros are surely among the best spirits in the world.
Since 1898, the mining village of Santa Caterina Minas has been distilling some of the most rustic, traditional and exquisitely expressive mezcales in all of Mexico. Today, the Ángeles Real Minero is the brand of the Ángeles family from Santa Catarina Minas. Fourth and Fifth generation Mezcal-producers, Edgar works the distillery, while mother Doña Florentina handles the bottling and sister Graciela handles… well, everything from marketing to development and research. Sadly, the patriarch of the Family, Don Lorenzo, passed away in 2016, but the family is carrying the torch and continuing their century-old tradition of producing the finest quality mezcal. The Ángeles family are thought-leaders in the industry and have devoted their lives to producing this hand-crafted spirit using arguably the most traditional methods in Oaxaca. Maguey are cooked in conical earthen ovens, fermented in wooden vats, hand-milled with mortar and pestle, and distilled in earthenware pots — a tremendously laborious technique, which yields an impressive, idiosyncratic spirit. Mineral-driven, with rich texture and a uniquely aromatic nose which speaks deeply of terroir, these mezcales will linger in mind and palate with consistently epic finishes. Often there are only 100 or 200 liters of each batch produced, and many ensambles (blends) are unique.
