Glengoyne Legacy Series Chapter Two

$98.99
The second bottling in the Legacy Series from Glengoyne.

The whiskies in this series are made to honour and celebrate the legacy of various distillery managers.

Chapter One honoured Cochrane Cartwright, the distillery manager of Glengoyne in the late 19th century, who is credited with bringing sherry cask maturation (now the distillery’s trademark style) and slow distillation to Glengoyne. Indeed, Cochrane Cartwright spent his entire career at Glengoyne, beginning as a message boy, before graduating to mashman and eventually manager. His ghost is now said to watch over the distillery, ensuring the high level of quality he demanded is maintained.

Chapter Two honours Peter Russell, the chairman of Ian Macleod distillers, who purchased Glengoyne 134 years after Cartwright’s time. Russell has continued to produce high quality Glengoyne whisky in the manner of Cartwright, ensuring the distillery does not follow fad or fashion too closely.

For this dram, the distillery in the Valley of the Wild Geese has matured its spirit in a combination of first fill former Bourbon American oak casks, and refill sherry casks.

The final result is a single malt that serves up notes of vanilla, peaches, chopped mint, lime rind, dried fruits, chocolate, apples, cinnamon, oats, cracked black pepper, dark malt, honey on toasts, bananas, coconut and pleasing sherried oak.

Bottled at 48% ABV for a little more body, this is warm and satisfying whisky.
